About Find Square Feet
Find Square Feet calculates square footage for any room shape, then turns that measurement into what a project actually needs -- boxes of flooring, gallons of paint, sheets of drywall, posts and rails for a fence, boards for a deck, rolls of wallpaper, or trim -- in the units you'd actually order in, not just a raw area number.
Where the numbers come from
Area calculations use standard textbook geometry (length × width, and the equivalent formulas for triangles, circles, trapezoids, and L-shapes). Material and coverage estimates use published, widely-cited trade figures for each material -- see each calculator's own explainer section for the specific figure and its source. Unit conversions (square feet, square meters, acres, hectares) use exact defined constants, not estimates. None of this is original research or a lab measurement -- it's the same math and rule-of-thumb figures contractors and installers use for planning.
What this site doesn't do
It doesn't store what you enter, require an account, or replace a real quote or measurement from a supplier or licensed contractor. Real material needs vary with site conditions, exact product specifications, and installation method -- treat every number here as a solid planning estimate, not an exact figure to order against without double-checking.
Who's behind this
Find Square Feet is built and maintained by Elbert Ballo. The coverage tables come from published trade rule-of-thumb figures, not a private database -- a deliberate choice to make the source of every number checkable rather than opaque.
